Why Elevator Technicians Are Choosing Elevated for Their Careers

If you’re an elevator technician, or you’re thinking about becoming one, you’ve got options. Pay matters, but it’s not the only thing that determines where you build your career. The right company gives you the tools to do your job, leaders who understand the trade and opportunities to keep growing.

At Elevated, many of our leaders started in the field, so they know firsthand what technicians face and what it takes to build a successful career in this industry.

What Does Elevated Offer?

If you’re coming up in this trade, union jobs can feel like the default path. But that path runs on tenure. You wait your turn, and your pace is set by seniority rather than your performance.

With Elevated, you pay no union dues, and you get a 401(k) match, immediate vesting and a stock purchase program after six months, plus performance pay that rewards the work you’re actually putting in, not just the years you’ve logged.

We also offer a host of benefits designed to support your health, financial goals, family and professional development, including:

Health and Wellness

Eligible employees can choose from four Blue Cross Blue Shield medical plans, along with dental and vision coverage. You’ll also have access to Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options, mental health services and additional wellness resources. We also provide life insurance, disability coverage and voluntary benefits to help support you when you need it most.

Financial Benefits

If you’re eligible, you’ll receive a 401(k) match of up to 4% with immediate vesting, so you can start building your retirement savings right away. After six months, eligible employees can also participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program, providing another way to invest in Elevated while investing in your own future.

Family Support

Life outside of work matters, too. Paid parental leave, PTO and paid holidays give you time to take care of personal responsibilities, spend time with family and recharge.

Tools and Support to Get the Job Done

Technicians do their best work when they have the right resources behind them. That’s why we provide practical support, including company vehicles, gas cards, company-provided phones and uniform and boot support.

These resources help you stay focused on the work and spend less time worrying about the added costs that come with the job.

The comparison below shows how Elevated stacks up against both union employers and typical original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), highlighting some of the differences technicians may encounter:

Comparison chart showing benefits of working at Elevated versus a typical union/OEM elevator employer. Elevated highlights no union dues, faster career growth, flexible career paths, a people-first culture, 401(k) match, stock purchase program, company vehicle and gas card, paid vacation, paid parental leave, performance pay, boot allowance, company phone, referral incentives, paid continuing education and an average workload of about 100 units per technician. The union/OEM column highlights union dues, tenure-based advancement, fixed wage scales, pensions, structured compensation, extensive training and an average workload of 200–300 units per technician.

Education and Training at Elevated

Elevated also provides technicians with the training to do the work well and a clear way to keep building on it. That comes through two connected programs: CET for hands-on career progression, and EPIC for ongoing technical support and training.

New technicians build their careers through the CET program, a four-year apprenticeship with defined levels from Apprentice through Lead Technician. Once a technician reaches Level 2, they can move into management, sales or supervision if they want to expand beyond the trade. Experienced technicians joining the company can step into that same track at a level that matches their skills.

Beyond the CET track, technicians have ongoing access to EPIC, Elevated’s Engineering Performance and Instructional Center. EPIC connects field technicians with remote engineers for on-call troubleshooting support, including a tool that provides live visual guidance during repairs. EPIC also runs in-person technical training at job sites and at Elevated’s learning center in Dallas, Texas, covering all makes and models of elevators and escalators.

Technicians move through CET and use EPIC’s support at their own pace, building skills and taking on more responsibility as they’re ready for it.

Building Your Career at Elevated

Elevated’s leadership team started in the field. Regional managers, vice presidents and directors across operations, sales and safety came up as technicians first, and that background shapes how the company approaches career growth.

Technicians at Elevated can move into supervisor roles, specialize in modernization or service, or shift into operations, sales or safety. Continuing education and leadership development programs support that movement, so career growth here is tied to the work a technician does, not their seniority.

Steve Newman and Kevin Porter took different paths through the company, and both show what that growth looks like in practice.

From Technician to Field Leader

After 35 years with Elevated, Steve Newman has worked his way through multiple positions as a field leader and now serves as a Modernization Supervisor.

When asked what he is most proud of in his career, Steve shared that it was “starting from the bottom and working my way through many positions as a field leader.”

Today, Steve brings that experience into his role supporting teams, solving challenges in the field and helping move projects forward.

Turning Trade Knowledge into Leadership

After starting in the elevator industry through his family’s business, which became part of Elevated in 2010, Kevin Porter developed years of experience in maintenance, repairs and customer relationships before moving into a Service Supervisor role.

In his role as Service Supervisor, Kevin draws on that experience to guide service operations, strengthen customer relationships and bring a technician’s perspective to leadership.
